Dustbins in Port – Louis

Port Louis, which is the Capital of Mauritius, consists of many buildings, people, vehicles, hawkers, shops, rats, broken pavements, restaurants, traffic, pigeons, crows…etc wow so many things.
But do we see dustbins in the streets of Port Louis?????
Today, Yashvin and I, were walking from Kaddy + (La Poudriere Street) to DCDM near Champ de Mars with 1 delight yoghurt in yash’s hand and 1 chocolate Flan in mine. After having eaten our desserts, we started looking for a dustbin.
Alas, we searched everywhere but instead of dustbins, there were only FLOWER POTS everywhere on the street!

Believe me, it is not the first time that we have been searching for dustbins in Port Louis and, I think you will all agree with me.
Hopefully, near Alpha College, there were 3 dustbins!

Atleast some educational institutions are giving good examples by providing their own dustbins. This is only one example that I have stated, meaning La Poudriere Street, but there are many streets like this, without dustbins and waste can be found everywhere on those streets.
Very disgusting!
Another good example is the Caudan Waterfront.
We do have dustbins there but for what?
Only for publishing advertisements on them to beautify the environment and to make money out of them!
I do hope that actions are taken soon to place small dustbins everywhere to facilitate disposal of wastes and, to keep the environment clean instead of decorating our streets with flower pots !
Walking miles to see any such dustbins have become irritating and this is one of the main reasons why people throw plastic bags, papers, food …etc everywhere on the streets of Port Louis.
Almost every one of us says that Port Louis is always in a mess, but why is it in this state!
I do hope that actions are taken soon to place small dustbins everywhere to facilitate disposal of wastes and to keep the environment clean instead of decorating our streets with flower pots !

So true..Port-Louis is really polluted.. It’s so hard to find dustins..Most of the time when you find them, they are either overloaded or in a pitiful state ..

That is the problem with port louis, we have mayor , we have deputies , we have councellors at the municipality.. but nothing is ever done. Wonder if those persons really live in Port Louis whatever be the case. C’est pas demain la veille that we will find more dustbins in the streets of port louis.
I am pondering on writing a mail to the municipality of port louis and asking for some stuffs..
wonder if they got an email !! ..
The only 2 mayors doing worthy stuffs are from curepipe and phoenix i fink .. 1 is doing a lot at curepipe and one is even doing customer service and you can sms him anytime on his personal mob to tell your request !! :S wished it could be the same in port louis !!
lol, I can’t see what I can add more, but let me think a bit… koz some of my original ideas landed into this post
haha
The college is only 1 example… Marchand dholl Pourri and other hawkers really deserve a round of applause since most of them carry their bins wherever they work. They show their concern about our environment, while investing their own money and labor in the bins.
As Dhaneesha rightly said, those “bins” in the most active regions of port louis are here only for making money!
Perhaps a bit out of subjet :
Other ‘claimed’ campaigns for a better environment (such as MCB charging for paper prints) are only another way to advertise their will for such green campaigns. There are so many ways they could help, without charging money!
While Gamma Conventa and other organisations are fighting for the WTE project, there are other small things in our daily life which are as important and which can definitely make mauritians aware of what is really called “Clean and Green”.
@yash
love u…
ya dou, forgot to thank you for the pictures and for your ideas…of course for verifying my post each time before I publish…afterall, you are the one who motivated me to become a blogger na
If you think the situation is bad now then just wait until they introduce recycling nation-wide then see if the public respects sorting of paper, plastics, glass, etc into different coloured bins. If the public does not have the basics today how can you introduce recycling? It is a priority for this small island.

Kan p al port louis bizin un sac plastic ensam..lerla pa pu perdi letmps rod poubelle
t’es belle comme une poubelle
Les poubelles à Port-Louis et partout ailleurs laissent vraiment à désirer..
ye, true, its so difficult to find dustbins in the city. and Yashvin is right about Marchand dholl Pourri and other hawkers. they carry their own “ti-poubelle” which is a good step to help not to make the city itself a big dustbin / dumping area :-p
